At GA, we believe the best results come from great partnerships. Whether you are a seasoned designer or embarking on your first print project, these guides help us move print forward together.
File Preparation
How do I properly prepare my files for printing?
We’ve compiled everything you need to know in our Print Ready Guide, but here are the essentials:
- File Formats Accepted: PDF (preferred), AI, PSD, INDD
- Color Mode: CMYK (Set black text to 100% K)
- Resolution: 300 dpi
- Size: File must be in actual print size
- Bleed: Add 0.125″ (1/8 inch) on all sides with bleed marks
- Safety Margin: Keep all content at least 0.25″ away from the trim or fold line
- PDF Requirements: Must be in single-page format
- Fonts & Links: Outline fonts or include font files; embed all image links
For complex jobs, a printed sample or physical mockup is highly recommended.
What are bleeds and why are they necessary?
A bleed is extra space (1/8″) added around your design to ensure that the ink coverage extends to the edge of the final print. This prevents any white borders from appearing after trimming. All artwork that extends to the edge of the finished size should include bleeds.
Design and Software
What programs can I use to create print-ready files?
We recommend using:
- Adobe Illustrator
- Adobe InDesign
These tools offer better support for print layouts, CMYK color, bleeds, and text handling.
If you’re using Canva, please make sure to:
- Download your file as PDF Print
- Check that crop marks and bleed are enabled
Ensure your file is set to the actual print size.
Quotation and Estimates
What information do I need to supply to receive an accurate quote?
To ensure an accurate and timely estimate, please provide the following:
- Quantity (quote more than one option if possible for price breaks)
- Number of pages (each side of a sheet counts as one page)
- Flat size and folded size
- Paper stock (or indicate if you’re flexible—we can suggest options)
- Ink colors and type (CMYK, Pantone, white ink, metallic, etc.)
- Finishing (e.g., lamination, die-cutting, binding, folding)
- Target delivery date
- Special packaging or shipping instructions
Providing a thumbnail sketch, mockup, or sample file also helps our team give more accurate and cost-effective suggestions.

Troubleshooting and Tips
Why does my print look different from the screen?
Screens use RGB color, while printing uses CMYK. Colors may shift during conversion. For the best accuracy:
- Always design in CMYK
- Request a printed proof if the color match is critical
